A transducer is a device that transforms one form of energy into another. A very simple example of a transducer is an automobile disc break. When a driver applies the breaks, the disc break transforms the energy of the spinning wheel into heat. This allows the car to slow down. Transducers have many users throughout the world. One common use of a transducer is that of a sensor. Transducers Sensors transforms one type of energy into another, the most common form being electricity. This allows energy measurements to be taken. For example, a force gauge transforms force into an electrical signal. This electrical signal can be calibrated to produce an accurate weight measurement. An example of this can be seen in a digital scale, which weights a person’s downward force due to gravity and transforms that into a reading in pounds or kilograms. The reading is then displayed on a digital screen.
